(Free Press Release) Facelift is one of the most sought after procedure these days. People from all walks of life want to look their best and thus have been undergoing the knife- one because it is safe, thanks to the advanced technology and second, access to affordable cosmetic surgery procedures abroad.

Many people have many common queries and we have listed a few FAQs commonly asked by people intending to undergo facelift surgery in India.

What does a facelift surgery actually do?

The face lift surgery firms and tightens the skin of face and neck giving a youthful and fresh appearance. The face lift usually turns back the clock on the face by about 10-15 years. Face lift also effectively treats wrinkles and lines in the lower facial regions such as the jowls and neck.

What should you not expect from a face lift cosmetic surgery?

The facelift surgery does not:

- Eliminate crow's feet nor wrinkles around the lips, since these wrinkles do not appear as a result of the aging process, but due to repeated muscle contraction.

- Produce any changes in the area above the eyes. In order to do that, forehead or brow lift surgery will be necessary.

What is the right age to get my first face lift?

There is no right age for a face lift. The time for your first face lift is based on whether the lift can correct your concerns. People are generally seeking facelift at younger age now to give a more natural appearance and longer lasting results.

Though at the age of 40-45 you may not need a full face lift, MACS lift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) or what is popularly known as a lifestyle lift would give you great results.

Will the results of face lift last forever?

Face lift surgery does not prevent the aging process. It simply resets the clock for an earlier time. However, there are some factors that change the longevity of the lift.

Condition of the skin is a major contributing factor. Skin that has lost elasticity through age, sun damage, smoking, and weight fluctuation will tend to recoil back to the pre-operative state sooner than more elastic skin. Younger, more elastic skin will maintain the longevity of the face lift. In general younger patients enjoy longer-lasting results.

Painful? Shall I Feel A Lot Of Pain During Recovery?
We do the surgery under general anesthesia and you shall not have any pain during the procedure. You will experience some pain and discomfort after the procedure, but that would be managed with medications.

Can I Get Rid Of All The Wrinkles On My Face With Facelift Surgery?
Face lift refreshes and rejuvenates the lower two-thirds of the face dramatically by removing excess fat and reshaping loose muscles and facial tissue. The surgery reduces sagging in the cheeks and around the jaw and makes you look younger.

Face Lift does not eliminate wrinkles above the lips, around the eyes and forehead. It is thus best called as lower face lift. If you have wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes, BOTOX injections, chemical peels, or laser resurfacing are the options. Eye lid surgery is the best choice to rejuvenate eyes and brow lift for forehead.

When would I be able to resume my daily activities after my facelift?
Most people are able to return to work between 10 and 14 days after their surgery even though swelling and bruising may take up to three weeks to disappear. You should avoid any strenuous activities and sun exposure for at least three to four weeks.

Where would the scars be? Would they be visible?

The scars are well concealed in the natural lines and folds of the face. They would not be visible at all in a few weeks time even if you look at them closely.

Would my friends and colleagues be able to make out that I underwent facelift cosmetic surgery?

No, they would obviously notice your face rejuvenated. Often the compliment our clients receive after a facelift is “Oh, you are looking so fresh and young!”

A good surgeon would take care that your face looks rejuvenated and fresh and not give you a “wind swipe” effect.

What is MACS or lifestyle lift? Is it better than conventional face lift surgery?

MACS is Minimal access cranial suspension lift, commonly known as lifestyle lift. People who do not merit a full face lift benefit greatly from MACS lift. It rejuvenates the mid-face without compromising the area of a future full-fledged face-lift.

Minimal Access Cranial Suspension lift allows for the correction of sagging facial features through a short, minimal incision, elevating them vertically by suspending them from above. It's a wonderful operation to rejuvenate the midface, jowls, and neck with minimal inconvenience.

The principle behind the MACS-Lift is that the superficial and deep facial layers are repositioned in a purely vertical fashion with no backward pull that can often look "operated" in appearance.

The major differences between the MACS and traditional lift are:

• The MACS-lift uses a shorter scar and is restricted to the front of the ear and along the hairline on the sides instead of behind- used in the traditional face lift, which is much easier to hide. The results of the MACS-lift are also very natural.

• The operation also takes less time, lasting 2.5 hours instead of the 3.5-4 hours that the traditional facelift requires and thus there is also a shorter recovery period.

The surgeons even with this small access can do as comprehensive a face-lift as with the older traditional incisions which are twice as long. So, MACS has become the procedure of choice of many aesthetic surgeons.

How is MACS lift or lifestyle lift done?

The MACS lift involves an incision restricted to the front of the ear stretching only from the earlobe to the hairline on the sides at the level of the top of the ear, which is usually covered by the sidecurls or the sideburns and is therefore virtually invisible once it settles.

Through that incision, the midface is dissected right down to the jaw line and the upper neck skin is dissected by liposuction through a 4 mm incision under the chin. With the help of 2-3 strong loop sutures, the sagging tissues in the cheek are then plicated and lifted to be anchored to the deep tissues at the level of the hairline. This lifts the malar prominence back to a youthful position, tightens and smoothens the smile creases and lines at the corners of the mouth, improves the jowls, redefines the jaw line and tightens the sheet of muscles in the neck as well.

It gives as good a result as the comprehensive face-lift while keeping the incision and dissection of the sagging tissues to a minimum thereby almost eliminating the risks of injury to important nerves and not scarring the tissues too much.

How do I know if I am a candidate for face lift or a non surgical technique is better for me?

If your face shows obvious signs of ageing with descent of the malar (cheek) prominence, significant wrinkling and folds in the cheeks, loss of facial fat, deepened nasolabial lines, early marionette lines at the corners of the mout, jowling and loss of definition of the jawline and considerable laxity in the neck (with fat accumulation under the chin), you are a candidate for face lift.
