Ekk Nayi Pehchaan’s story is similar to my mother’s real life story — Karan Sharma

The very good looking actor who is seen playing the fun-loving character of Karan Modi in Sony TV’s Ekk Nayi Pehchaan is enjoying fullest playing the role. He is paired opposite the popular Krystle D’souza. We caught up with the handsome actor for a candid chat:

Tell us about your character?

Strangely, even though I am playing the character with my name, I don’t relate to it at all. I play the character of Karan Modi who belongs from a well to do Gujarati family. Though he wants to something in life, he isn’t able to do much due enough clarity. In real life I am very simple guy unlike the flamboyant and naughty character of Karan Modi that I essay in Ekk Nayi Pehchaan. I am someone who is close to his parents and has a close set of friends. Playing a character that is contrast to what I am adds fun of my work.

How is your experience working with Poonam Dillon?

When I heard that Poonam Dhillonji was playing my mother in the show was taken aback. It is an honour to work with such an veteran actor. It’s a big thing for me. I get lots to learn from her. My dad is a huge fan of Poonam Dhillon and when he got to know that she is playing my mother he couldn’t believe it.

Krystle D’Souza is already a big name in the industry. How does it feel working with her?

When I met Krystle, I felt she was amazing. She is fabulous and down to earth and has no airs about being a lead from a very popular show. She is extremely chilled out in real life!

What is your personal opinion on Marriage?

Marriage is all about knowing your partner throughout your life and understanding each other. Arrange marriage gives you chance to slowly know a stranger that you have to live with all your life whereas in love marriage, there is a plus point wherein you know the person beforehand, but that can sometimes back fire and you may lose interest in the person after already spending a lot of time prior to marriage. And even if I fall in love and want to get married, I would do that in a short span of time. It will surely be a ‘chatt mangni pat shaadi’ for me in that case.

Is there any similarity between your onscreen relationship with your mother and your real life mom?

Frankly, this happens in a lot of families. Like in my real life, my mother is semiliterate. She studied only till the second grade. She couldn’t pursue her studies ‘coz my granddad passed away and she had to leave school to make sure that her brothers got the education. Ekk Nayi Pehchaan’s story is somewhat connected to a lot of real life stories. I can relate with this because I know the hardships and sufferings my mom has gone through.

Did the show change your thinking in any way?

I feel the story is very excellent and if we can educate the elders and encourage them to study it would be a great thing. There is no age for learning. The show has completely  changed my idea of towards education and explained me the need and importance of it.
