In order to be successful in the information age, students have to learn to be creative problem-solvers and to passionately explore topics they enjoy, while learning about sustainability and the fragility of the planet within relevant everyday situations.

Tim Young, founder of Education These Days, gained experience working on the Global Learning XPRIZE after completing his postgraduate studies.  He made it his mission to develop and distribute affordable technology around the world.  Education These Days will use the resources gained through sales in developed countries to distribute this educational software to developing countries, ensuring a positive future for humanity.

After a devastating injury to his neck rendering him a tetraplegic, Young was able to pursue a Masters of Science degree in Psychology and a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Psychology.  Young realized that his education set him up for a good future so he can fulfill his potential in life.  He wants to pass this opportunity on to every child in the world—especially those who do not have access to an education.  The opportunity to pay it forward and distribute educational video games to developing countries is where is passion remains.

All video game characters are evenly split between all ethnicities and genders to help all players to feel included, allowing for full immersion and engagement while promoting talent above stereotypes.  Subtitles are provided for those with hearing difficulty and large controls are provided for the disabled and those with limited mobility.

The game is based on extensive pedagogy and educational psychology research.  If enough funds are raised, Rocket Island will be developed for Samsung VR and Oculus, and released in French, Spanish, Maori, Mandarin, Hindi, and Swahili.

The Kickstarter campaign, located on the web at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/educationthesedays/rocket-island-immersive-and-fun-3d-educational-vid, offers pledge levels from $5 NZD (about $4 USD) up to $500 NZD (about $358 USD), with rewards including everything from a thank you noted in the game credits, a digital download of Rocket Island for PC and Android, stickers, magnets, a mouse pad, naming a character and farm animal, and even dinner with Tim the creator of Rocket Island.  For more information, visit the Kickstarter page.
