The Alien Encounters series, which features two strong female heroines as the lead characters, has spawned three previously published novels and the release of a new one entitled "Back Home". Author Kim Welsman, who was formerly a science teacher, was inspired to write the series in order to help female students feel more comfortable reading about the many ideas found within the science fiction genre. In the new book, "Back Home", protagonist Lyrissa travels with her alien friend Peggy to the alien world of Sylax, where they discover an ongoing plot to enslave the entire population of the planet. In "Back Home", however, Welsman uses a new format to give the reader a better perspective from the viewpoint of psychic investigator Lyrissa. She does this by employing two different points of view throughout the novel, one for Lyrissa and the other for Peggy, and the result is a much more complex work that provides the reader a more in-depth understanding of each of the characters.
With "Back Home", the futuristic landscape of a New America is left behind for the strange world of Sylax, where Lyrissa discovers that her psychic powers have reached a new zenith, but she must contend with the growing sense of chaos as an impending revolution threatens the security of the once peaceful world. The novel is both an exhilarating and stimulating read that is perfect for teenagers but is also enjoyable for readers of any age.
