Can’t we celebrate Diwali without fireworks?

Do we know  our enjoyment kills lacks of birds every Diwali?

Diwali, the biggest festival of our country is being celebrated with zeal across world. People prepare themselves to celebrate it with joy in advance and spend a major amount on purchase of firecrackers.     Everyone who has ever held a sparkler or set off a string of firecrackers understands the danger of fireworks, but not only can fireworks be dangerous to the people handling them, they can also be dangerous and even deadly to wild birds.

Fireworks can be dangerous to wild birds in several ways. If live fireworks come into contact with birds they can cause severe burns and injuries to a bird’s plumage, limbs, eyes, and skin. The chemicals used in fireworks, including combustible powders and toxic inks, can also cause gastrointestinal distress if they are ingested, even in small quantities. The loud concussions made by personal fireworks can damage birds’ sensitive hearing or may cause enough emotional and psychological stress to drive birds away from nests.

Fireworks damage and destroy the environment also as:

Fireworks have started grass and forest fires

The explosion of fireworks releases poisonous chemicals and particle-laden smoke, contaminating our natural environment

Fireworks produce light pollution, noise pollution, air pollution, debris and litter

Fireworks damage the Ozone layer

Effects of fireworks on people:

People who suffer from asthma experience discomfort, eye injuries, deafness

People get killed manufacturing fireworks: The mortality rate of gunpowder explosion burns in factory accidents is high

Children are 11 times more likely to be injured by fireworks

People who stand too close to the fireworks run a high risk of being harmed

Diwali festival is incomplete without the loud and resonating sounds of firecrackers that add zest to the celebrations. But, it's not the same for the speechless animals and birds. With their superior sense of hearing, the revelry during Diwali is a nightmare for the winged creatures. Birds usually follow a daily pattern of waking up early and reposing at dusk. With most of the explosions taking place after dusk, their daily routine is thrown out of gear. Also, sounds reverberating through firecrackers and resulting air pollution repel migratory birds from their migration path.

These are a few problems causing fear in birds communities. We can not count number of death of birds on account of crackers used on Diwali every year, but according to survey conducted by a lover of birds, more than 8 lacks birds loose lives every year due to fireworks. It is really a cause of concern and one should take initiation to check unwanted deaths.

PR 24x7 Network Limited took the initiative and decided not to use fire works this Diwali. Company took oath to spread the message “Save birds from fire works” among residents of the country. Entire team of the company also communicated message to their friends and relatives.

Let us hope that our request could save lives of at least few birds this Diwali.
