City level winners of ´Tata Building India School Essay Competition - 2010-11‘ from Eastern Zone felicitated in Kolkata

• Winning candidates of English, Hindi and Bengali essay competition,shortlisted through 28 city level competitions organized in Eastern India, felicitated in Kolkata
• Part of the annual national level school essay competition organized by the Tata Group in 8 languages, where nearly 2 million students across 150 cities have participated from nearly 5,000 schools

Ranchi: The Tata Group recognized the city level winners of the Eastern Zone of the 5th annual ´Tata Building India School Essay Competition - 2010-11‘, today, at Kalamandir, Kolkata. The winners were selected from a competitive pool ofstudentsthrough28city level competitions conducted in 8 cities for English, 5 cities for Hindi and 15 cities for Bengali.
In the Eastern Zone, the English edition of the essay competition was held across Dhanbad,Guwahati,Jalpaiguri,Jamshedpur,Kolkata,Patna,Ranchi, Siliguri with 230 schools participating;the Bengali edition was held acrossKolkata,Bangaon,Basirhat,Purulia,Nadia,Uluberia,Bhatpara,Coochbeha,Burdwan,Kalyani,Katwa,Krishnanagar,Kulti,Ranaghat and Panihati/Sodepur/Barasat (combined) with 360 schools participating, attracting a total of 1 lakh students; and the Hindi edition was held across Patna, Bhagalpur,Ranchi, Gaya and Jamshedpur with a total of 136 schools participating.
The regional awards ceremony was held at Kalamandir in Kolkata and the chief guests,renowned author Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay andinternationally acclaimed painter Shuvaprasanna Bhattacharya, awarded trophies and gift certificates to the winners. The winning essays at the city level will be further judged by a prominent jury for national level recognition.
The theme for the 2010-11 edition of the essay competition was ´Poverty reduction‘. The essay entries received from the enthusiastic participants featured thought provoking and inspiring ideas which clearly showcased the vision, compassion and conviction of today‘s young Indians.
Speaking on the occasion, author Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay said, “I am very glad to be present today among my young friends and I congratulate all the participants who took part in this biggest Essay competition of India, irrespective of the results. I have judged one of the earlier editions of Tata Building India Essay Competition and I know how difficult it is to choose one winner. It is a beautiful experience to see such beautiful thoughts coming from such young minds. I wish them all the best for their future”.
Sri Suvaprasanna Bhattacharya added, “This is an extremely wonderful initiative by Tata Group for the school children. Tata Group has always played a pivotal role in shaping up the nation and Tata Building India Essay Competition is another wonderful initiative for students that encourage them to think and think BIG. I would urge all the students present here that do not dream small, always dream BIG and then pursue your dreams.”

Tata Building India School Essay Competition is a unique initiative undertaken by the Tata group of companies to motivate the youth of India towards thinking about nation building. The essay competition provides a unique platform to encourage young leaders of tomorrow to showcase their expressions in writing, on a host of subjects related to nation building.
