Carbon Hill Inc - Despite the country‘s diplomatic isolation, Taiwan embraces carbon trading.

Analysts at “Carbon Hill Inc” have welcomed news that Taiwan has elected to participate in carbon trading.

“Carbon Hill Inc” said that although Taiwan is recognized by only 23 nations, its decision to contribute to the effort to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) reflects a growing international trend.

Taiwan is not a member of the United Nations and, as such, is not under any obligation to rein in GHG emissions but a recent official announcement that the country intends to obtain carbon credits through the promotion of green technology is regarded as a concerted effort to act responsibly.

“Carbon Hill Inc” added that the UN's Clean Development Mechanism which permits rich countries to meet the obligations of their greenhouse gas reduction commitments under the Kyoto Protocol by investing in projects that facilitate emissions reductions in developing countries should not be looked at as applying only to large nations and suggested that Taiwan‘s example should be lauded.

Taiwan is not a signatory to the Kyoto Protocol but it has pledged to abide by the treaty's terms.
