~Canada is a partner country for Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017

 

Ahmedabad, Sept 2016: Ahead of the8th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017, the officials of Government of Gujarat, today were visited by the Canadian delegation. The delegation was led byHon.Yasmin Ratansi, Member of Parliament & Chair CPA. She was accompanied by Hon. Salma Athullajan, Senator; Hon. Joan Fraser, Senator; Hon. Ramesh Sangha, Member of Parliament; Ms. Elizabeth Kingston, Executive Secretary and Ms. Tara Scheurwater Sr. Trade Commissioner, Consulate General of Canada, Mumbai. Canada will continue to be a partner country for Vibrant Gujarat for the third consecutive year.

 

During the meeting, the delegation was shown a promotional audio-visual on Gujarat and the success of previous summits. In addition to the audio-visual, the Government officials made a presentation highlighting the strengths of the state and opportunities it offers. The delegation was highly impressed by facts such as Gujarat being a national leader in 15 manufacturing sectors.

 

Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Shri P K Taneja, Additional Chief Secretary, Industry and Mining department said,“The relationship between Canada & India, specifically between Canada & Gujarat is getting deeper and better by the year. As a state, Gujarat provides maximum economic freedom and Canada leverages the same. It’s a win-win situation for both parties. With Canada, we are working towards expanding both economic and cultural ties. I thank them for their continued support to Vibrant Gujarat. I look forward to welcome them at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017.”

 

Earlier this month, a delegationled by Shri Bharat Lal, Resident Commissioner, Govt. of Gujarat did roadshows in Toronto and Montreal. With the theme of "Gujarat - Connecting India to World", the roadshow featured various activities involving leading companies, industry associations and government officials of Canada. The delegates discuss some of the investor-friendly policies, the robust industrial ecosystem and single window clearance procedures that Gujarat offers, making it one of the most sought after investment destinations, globally. Gujarat was ranked number 1 in “Ease of Doing Business” in 2015 among all states of India in a joint study by the Government of India and World Bank.

Speaking about her visit to Gujarat, Hon. Yasmin Ratansi, Member of Parliament, Canada said, “It is important that both Gujarat and Canada capitalize on the diaspora and the people-to-people lineage. Gujarat has the ability and we are set for better times together.”

 

The Canadian delegation leader expressed her thoughts on inviting some of the Gujarati- Canadians as part of Canada’s official delegation to India for Vibrant Gujarat to further better the cultural ties.
