AUSTIN, TX - FARE is delighted to announce that  one of Austin's very own local news anchors, KVUE news anchor Bryan Mays has been selected to serve as the Honorary Media Ambassador at the FARE Walk for Food Allergy being held November 1st, 2014. A familiar face to many Austinites with his regular appearances  on KVUE News,  Bryan is the parent of a child with a severe peanut allergy. Bryan has been selected in recognition that spreading awareness in a public forum  is critical to the mission of FARE.

"I am so excited to take part in this important event.  As the parent of a son with a severe food allergy, I understand how important it is to bring awareness to this cause.  I'm also really looking forward to visiting with other parents and individuals who are living with food allergies right here in Central Texas.  Hope everyone will join us for the Allergy Walk this year!" Bryan said.

Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) is the nation’s leading organization working on behalf of the 15 million Americans with food allergy, including all those at risk for life-threatening anaphylaxis.  Our mission is to find a cure for food allergies, and to keep individuals with food allergies safe and included.

With the number of people who have food allergies increasing at a significant rate, this potentially fatal condition is a growing public health issue. The numbers tell the story:  Food allergies affect up to 15 million Americans, including 1 in 13 children — roughly two in every classroom. Nearly 40% of these children have already experienced a severe or life-threatening reaction. The number of children with food allergies in the U.S. increased 50% between 1997 and 2011. And every three minutes, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency room.

Individuals, families, community groups, and anyone else wishing to raise funds for FARE are encouraged to register and attend this family-friendly event. Registration is free. Registration for the FARE Walk for Food Allergy is now available at this link . Registration is free and begins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday November 1st, 2014 and the walk starts at 10:00 a.m. The walk is being held at Mueller Lake Park located at 4600 Mueller Blvd. in Austin.
