You read it here first, from 2016 Dacey Tours are delighted to announce that the quaint village of Charlestown will be added to their itinerary due to rising demand from tour guests.  So, what can those lucky enough to be on one of these Cornwall tours expect from Charlestown? It is a fishing village with much Cornish charm. Situated just 2 miles from the town of St. Austell, Charlestown was born out of the village of West Polmear and is found on the south coast of Cornwall.

Originally without a harbour, the vessels visiting Charlestown would be forced use the beach to go about their business, however, in 1791 a gentleman by the name of Charles Rashleigh moved near to the village and he began construction of a brand new harbour, he also did much other work for the village and in 1799 the local villagers asked for the permission to name the area after him; hence the name Charlestown.

The pretty fishing village has not undergone too much in the way of 20th century development and remains largely unchanged, this adds to its wonderful Cornish vibe. For the Poldark fans on the tour you may be interested to hear that in the 1994 Charlestown harbour was purchased by Square Sail, they use this as a home for their ships and what’s even more interesting is that some of the Square Sails ships were used as sets for the 2015 season of the undoubtedly popular television series!

Dacey’s always thinks very carefully when planning his tours, he has chosen to accommodate tour guests in the Pier House Hotel, Charlestown and boy are they in for a treat. Set on the harbour the hotel enjoys breath-taking views across the port and the stunning St. Austell coastline. The hotel is in a very central position and as such is a hub for locals and tourists alike, especially with its wonderful restaurant.

Any Doc Martin fans reading this might be wondering if they would indeed enjoy a visit on one of these fabulous trips; in a word yes, we think that they would love the day in Port Isaac which is where much of the popular series is set, wonder if Doc Martin himself will be doing the rounds!

You may be thinking what else is in store for those on one of Dacey’s Cornish Tours; from the splendour of the world famous Eden Project to the heritage of Lands End these Cornwall tours really do have it covered. It has to be said that much of the beauty of undertaking an organised escorted tour is the relaxation that comes with it; tourists can simply sit back, relax and let Cornwall enthusiast Dacey take the strain. It is apparent that guests will be shown some of the most enchanting places imaginable. Other popular stops include stunning St Ives, a visit to St Michael’s Mount and one of the most popular botanical gardens in the UK; namely The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

There is no doubt that the addition of Charlestown is an exciting development, the popularity has been so high and in such demand that it rightfully deserves its place on the tour. 2016 promises to be a great year for Dacey and his wonderful Cornwall tours; Charlestown is sure to play its part!
