Barkha Ritu fascinates Delhi with Monsoon ragas

Audience mesmerized by sweet musical notes of Rahul Sharma (Santoor) and Ustad Rashid Ali Khan (Vocals)

Delhi, 21 July, 2015: Banyan Tree Events on this Saturday, 18 July 2015 organized fourteenth edition of Barkha Ritu at Kamani Auditorium, Delhi in partnership with L&T financial services. This edition will present the monsoon ragas in seven cities across India — Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad.

L&T Financial Services has partnered with Banyan Tree for the fifth consecutive year as National Title Sponsor of Barkha Ritu, with the aim of nurturing India’s rich cultural heritage.

The first concert of this music festival was presented in the capital city Delhi and featured Rahul Sharma (Santoor) and Ustad Rashid Khan (Vocals), who mesmerized the audience with their sweet musical notes. Rahul Sharma is the Son and disciple of the living legend Pt Shivkumar Sharma. He embodies the perfect example of the new Indian musician — equally at ease in the world of pure classical and indo-western fusion music alike. He has successfully created bestselling albums combining his Santoor with the likes of Kenny G and Richard Clayderman. He is a performer, composer par excellence with a huge fan following at such a young age.

Ustad Rashid Khan isone of the finest vocalist of Hindustani music tradition and the great-grandson of Inayat Hussain Khan. His taankari is as powerful and variegated as any of his predecessors and, in fact, among the best in the nation at the moment. A notable achievement of Ustad Rashid Khan is the infusion of an emotional content into his melodic elaboration. The entry to the event was free.

A spokesperson from Banyan Tree events said about the event, “We are delighted to see the enthusiasm of Delhites for this event. Through Barkha Ritu we are trying to encourage our culture and classical music in different cities of the nation. Now we’ll take this event to other cities.”

A link from L&T financial services said, “Banyan Tree is giving a great contribution in reliving our culture and classical music. We have been continuously partnering with them in organizing Barkha Ritu for five years. We are looking forward to this association in future events also.
