Unique portrait of famous millionaire painted on shredded US currency acquired by word famous collection.
New York- Usually the artist picks the medium; some work with stone, others with clay, some with oils, and others with watercolors. But when Middlesex, New Jersey artist Drake Barry decided to paint a portrait of billionaire Donald Trump it was more a case of the subject picking the medium. “When Drake Barry decided to paint Mr Trump’s portrait, he knew there was only one medium to work with…cash” said the artist’s representative.
So Drake Barry contacted the US Mint and created the portrait of Donald Trump on authentic shredded US Currency. How much cash? According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing, shredded currency contains $165.00 per ounce, so the portrait of Donald Trump contains around $32,000.00.
When Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Times Square announced that the legendary Edward Meyer, VP of Exhibits & Archives would be coming to New York in search of unusual items as part of the Bizarre Bazaar on June 6th and 7th, Drake Barry knew he had found a buyer for his numismatic masterpiece. Upon seeing the unwrapped piece in Ripley’s Times Square Odditorium, Edward Meyer exclaimed “Well now, I have to buy that!”.
Drake Barry’s representative said “Drake is thrilled beyond words to have his artwork become part of the world famous Ripley’s Believe It Or Not collection. To know that the artwork will be displayed for the public and viewed by hundreds of thousands of museum visitors each year is what every artist dreams of.”
Drake Barry plans to continue his series of portraits of famous billionaires, with either Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, or newly minted billionaire Jay-Z.
