Greetings from India Theatre Forum!

We are delighted to announce the launch of India’s very first management programme for theatre. A 10-day residential course followed by a 6-month mentorship by senior theatre practitioners.
SMART is a programme to build capacity in theatre groups to think and work strategically, hence to be most effectual in whatever sphere of theatre they are working in. The aim is to enrich the field of theatre through building management capacities that support and enable the artistic dream. SMART is for those already working in the field who have the power to make a difference within their organisations. (SMART note attached)
SMART is brought to you by India Theatre Forum (ITF), a theatre network based on the concept of alliance, run by and for people committed to the growth of a vibrant theatre culture and practice in India. (Brief on ITFattached)
7 reasons why SMART is unique …

* 1st ever theatre management training programme in India
Never before has there been a management training programme dedicatedly focused on theatre in India.

* Addresses the dire need of the hour
Urban and semi-urban contemporary Indian theatre needs professional management that looks at the needs and realities of Indian theatre and responds to these realities to ensure the greatest possible effectiveness of theatre’s reach and possibilities.

* Built on indigenous knowledge
For the first time in India and perhaps in Asia, here is a programme that addresses the needs of theatre practice from the ground up. Informed by existing practices in India and taught by people with direct experience of working with the theatre and the arts in India, the programme borrows strategically from established management practices where necessary

* Best resource people ever!
Our mentoring team and facilitators of SMART are leaders in their respective fields of theatre and arts management in India and are dedicated to building this programme to impact our theatre world. The programmes has been conceived under the able guidance and mentorship of Milena Dragićević Šešić, with her vast experience in setting up management training programmes specifically designed for the arts. (Brief intros of the SMART people attached)

* Scholarship and practice
A significant feature of this programme is that unlike most courses which either concentrate on scholarship or practice with little relevence to on-ground realities — this one brings the best of both worlds together where theoretical approaches are applicable to on-ground challenges and realities.

* DIY
SMART is a do it yourself capacity building module that strengthens the management capacities of theatre groups. This course will teach the participants how to develop their groups’:-
1. Essential core values
2. Group Sustainability
3. Audience Building
4. Communications
5. Financial Management
6. Fundraising
7. Administration
And will culminate in the building of a strategic plan by each participating group that they can apply to their own practice.

* SMART is affordable
At Rs 15,000 for 2 people from each theatre organisation this course fee is highly subsidised and affordable to enable the greatest reach and impact across the country. This has been made possible by the generous support of our sponsors and donors.
