An evening of art and music

India: Luxury hotel ITC Grand Chola in association with Omkara Art Space brought to Chennai an exhibition for a cause with internationally celebrated artist A.V. IIlango making it a must attend evening for all the art and music lovers of the city.

The exhibition showcased IIlango’s extended collection of “The Bovine Principle” for the first time making it an exclusive preview for all attendees. The inspiration behind the collection for the artist has been drawn entirely from the bovine form which is one of the principal idioms of Indian tribal, folk and classical art; in his art work, the Bull has been depicted emoting various elements and emotions through the dynamic strokes of this avant -garde genius. The exhibition was curated by Kavery Poovanna, the founder of Omkara Art Space, with the purpose of accentuating the dynamics of the Bovine form.

During his Welcome address, Nigel Wyman, a director of Omkara Art space explained that Omkara Art Space was formed with the aim of encouraging and supporting the development of contemporary art.  “Collaborating with ITC Grand Chola and our continued association with NalandaWay has been a very rewarding experience and we look forward to the next project.”

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Philippe Charraudeau, Vice President & General Manager said, “Tamil Nadu and the city of Chennai is known for its culturally rich heritage and the people here really appreciate art and music hence it gives us great pleasure to create a platform to bring together these artists, known for their brilliance in their own spaces. This performance is for a cause and the proceeds from this evening will go towards the NGO ‘Nalandaway’. We feel proud to be associated with it and hope to host many more such events in the future.”

To add another dimension to the evening and make it more soulful, the famous classical pianist Anil Srinivasan enthralled the audience with his classical performance.  The highlight of the evening though remained a duet performance by both artists in their own space of Illango creating magic on canvas while Srinivasan played the piano.

The evening was dedicated to raising funds through the auctioning of a painting created by the children of Nalandaway along with artist Illango. Paintings by children of Nalandaway’s ‘Achieve through the Arts’ initiative were also exhibited at the event.
