Delhi boys Achin and SarthakNarula are still in shock after winning `7crore in the Jodi Special episode of KaunBanegaCrorepati 8. When we spoke to the boys after their win, they told us that they still aren't sure how they are going to use the prize money. Achinshared that he had been trying to participate in the game show for the last 10 years.
How it feels after winning the Jackpot of 7crore in KBC?
This was unexpected Achin: The win was totally unexpected. I was numb when Amitabh sir announced that we had won `7crore. We didn't think that our life would change like this. We are normal but the way others are reacting to it... ajeebsa lag rahahai. We never thought that this would happen. All the stars came together and smiled upon us. My father had said, 'You won't go beyond 25 lakh'. We have surprised him and ourselves. We have been busy giving interviews since the win
How are you going to utilise this huge amount?
Haven't even decided what we will do with the prize money Achin: We have been through a lot in the last one year. My mom has been operated for ovarian cancer and she has been through her chemotherapy sessions. She's in the monitoring phase currently. We had thought that the expenditure during this phase would be incurred by the money we got from the show. That was our main aim. My father had a business of mattresses. Due to certain circumstances the factory was shifted to a place where the area wasn't enough. My father had to sell off the factory and we incurred huge losses after that. We had to sell off our home also. My dad was quite sad after all this happened. Currently, the house we are staying in is our grandfather's. It's a divided home and it's not in our name. These were the motivational factors. I plan to buy a home for my father. I have that in my mind but I will plan everything once we get the prize money.
From how long have you been trying for KBC?
Trying for the last 10 years Achin: I turned 18 in 2004 and have been trying since then to get into KBC. I wasn't shortlisted for the auditions four times. My brother has proved to be my lucky charm. It's a moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
What all preparations did you do for the game?
The questions on the show are quite twisted Achin: I had two lifelines left by the time I answered the question for `1crore. I used a lifeline for the 14th question even though I knew the answer to the question. I have been preparing for KBC for long now. During the auditions, which I had been giving, I would always get the 10 answers right. We got a call a month back that we have been selected. Since then, I have been studying late at night to prepare for the show. I have followed Derek O'Brien's Bournvita Quiz Contest. There's this other show Mastermind Family withBenjamInGilani that I watch quite a lot. I have read a lot of quiz books by Derek O'Brien and Siddhartha Basu, who is also the producer of KBC. The questions in the show are quite analytical and are often twisted."
What do you have to say about the win?
My brother is quite inspiring Sarthak: I don't know what to say. It was my first visit to Mumbai. I don't have that kind of knowledge my brother has. He's inspiring. I have been preparing for SSC (Staff Selection Commission) for the last one year but my brother has been preparing for this for really long. We are still shocked by the win.
