ACC Lakheri takes measures to ensure road safety for its drivers

August, 2014: ACC Lakheri Cement Works regularly conducts various training programmes for drivers and their crew. Now it has introduced state-of-the-art technology to enhance its logistics management systems and to ensure the safety of its drivers.

The latest studies by the Rajasthan government show that approximately 577 accidents were recorded in Bundi district in the year 2012, which led to 148 deaths — in 95.52% of all road accidents in Rajasthan, it was the driver’s fault. These studies highlight the increasing need for safety awareness among drivers and ACC Limited has been actively taking concrete measures in this regard.

The celebration of the 25th Road Safety Week at Lakheri Works was through a display of banners at all prominent locations, distribution of road safety tip cards and badges. The theme “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow” was inculcated in participants through a ‘Nukkad Natak’ (street play). Defensive driving and road safety awareness training sessions at Parking Yards, Mines, Farmhouses etc. were held for drivers, to communicate the message of ‘Zero Harm at Road’.

Mr Umesh Pratap, Director Plant, inaugurated the event saying, “Emphasis of this event has been laid on road safety, drinking and driving and awareness of safety rules inside the plant and on course as well.”

ACC has deployed RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device) and GPS technologies, in order to make major advancements in building efficient logistics and also usher in best-in-class transport systems. Based on these results, the drivers are advised and trained on safer and more resourceful methods of reaching the destination.

Some other steps taken, included engaging with road transport contractors and encouraging them to take ownership of the driver and vehicle certification by issuing ‘Driver Passports’ (to drivers assessed as being competent to drive on company’s business) and ‘Vehicle Passports’ (to vehicles which have been inspected and found fit to be driven on company’s business) and a 30 point vehicle inspection checklist, for daily inspection of trucks. Additionally, drivers are frequently required to undergo mandatory health check-ups.

ACC Lakheri Cement Works, continuously tries to maintain a healthy work environment for its drivers not just within the plant but also on the transportation route. Realizing that the impact of road safety on business and society is expected to further increase in future, the ACC logistics team and ACC are committed to eliminating Logistics Safety related injuries and fatalities.
