July 26th marks the success of operation Vijay, known as Kargil Vijay Diwas. It has been 15 years to the success of Kargil war and India salutes the victory of its heroes every year with the same decorum. It was on this day that our Indian Soldiers made a significant victory and took command of the high outposts which had been lost to the Pakistani Intruders. IBN-Lokmat pays its tribute to the unsung heroes and remembers the war through a special show with on Reportaaz this Sunday, 27th July, 2014 at 11:30 am and 8.30 pm.

15 years ago, mornings in the mountains started with sounds of shells fired and the sound of the Bofors gun tossing lead into the sky, the counterblast heard across the mountains and the morning filled with smoke. The Kargil War began between India and Pakistan on May 8, 1999 when Pakistani army illegally intruded on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LOC) and claimed 527 lives, 1400 were injured. The war ended on July 14, 1999, both the countries withdrew troops from the border. This heroism was awarded 4 Param Veer Chakras, 10 MVCs and 50 VCs. The army’s commitment and its loss go far beyond these numbers. All that has changed in a decade and half is the nation’s history, and the lives of many- the jawans who were a part of the War, relatives of the martyrs and the villagers.

26th July, as the ceremonies begin, is a reminder of a war, a commemoration of a victory, a day of great loss but most importantly of lessons learnt, the hard way. Reportaaz, in an effort to instil a sense of responsibility and respect for the armed forces, will bring to you a special episode ‘Kargil, Lest We Forget’ only on IBN-Lokmat. Tune in to Reportaaz this Sunday morning at 11.30 am and 8.30 Pm.
