A Girl Fights Discrimination Due to Size With Instagram And Wins Twice — says Gram-ozo.com

01 August, 2014: Samm Newman has always been a little bit thicker on the sides than most kids. Because of this, she got bullied in school. High school was especially hard on her: her hair would bubble gums stick on it and people would throw things at her. She did disastrous things to herself: cutting, hitting, stabbing. This was posted on July 12, 2014. A few days late, she was logged out from her account and she has received a letter from the site saying that she has been found violating the rule of Instagram about pictures of showing partial nudity. 

Newman was stunned. She was sad and depressed at first because all her pictures from the said social networking sites were precious to her and all of it has been deleted. After that, she became angry. She knew that her photo was decent. She also has seen some more daring pictures on the said site. She then searched for the said photos and was enraged when she has found out that they were still there and the account has not been removed. 

She felt that it was because of her size. It was a form of discrimination as people who had bared more skin but thinner than her was not penalized. She fought it by reaching to media networks such as Huffington Post, Fox28, 10TV, and NBC4i. This has indeed reached Instagram and the said company has apologized for it. They said in their statement that, 

On July 16, Newman’s account was restored. She and her family and friends were happy at first. However, she found out that her picture was still missing. She felt like the company removed her account in order to remove her barely risqué photo. Once again, she reached to the media and Instagram once again apologized. 

Newman felt empowered because she won her case. However, she says that she is disappointed with the site. She has been active on it but she felt like Instagram cannot support her because of the discrimination due to size that she has received.
